Bird Removal and Control in Seattle

Bird in the Home: Sometimes a bird will get stuck inside a home. In the photo to the right, we see a Chimney Swift. It flew down the chimney and into the house, and got stuck. I carefully removed it and let it free outside.

Pigeons: The most common nuisance bird that we deal with is pigeons. Pigeons are common in urban areas of Seattle. They like to roost on various urban structures, such as beams, ledges, and store signs. There, they poop all over the place. This defecation is of particular concern in public areas, not just because it is unsightly, but because it is unsanitary.

Nuisance Concerns: The most relevant problem involving birds, pigeons in particular, is that they leave their droppings behind. In the case of pigeons, these droppings may accumulate and create unsanitary conditions. Add the fact that pigeons usually roost in busy urban areas, and it means that he droppings are inconveniently located. If the droppings accumulate over time inside a structure, they can grow the fungus that can cause the lung infection histoplasmosis.

Pigeons In Your House? What Are The Removal Methods? - A lot of debate takes place about how to properly remove pigeons from your property without causing any harm to the birds and to yourself, as a home owner. However, it seems that pigeons in your house and their removal methods are not always efficient, as most of the so called traditional methods fail in most cases. If you are not ready to call a professional exterminator just yet, there are some humane methods to keep the pigeons at bay. Keep in mind that these methods are not always efficient and they do not present any guarantees that the pigeons will not return back.

One of the pigeons in your house removal methods that some people like is to use pigeon spikes, which are roof modifications meant to prevent pigeons from landing on your house. However, they may choose other places to fly around, and investing in this otherwise humane method can be costly. Another method would be to use some kind of repellant, but so far, chemistry knowledge has brought nothing new in this field: what hurts pigeons can hurt other animals, as well, and even humans. Netting can be used for preventing pigeons to land, but, again, this may be costly especially if youíre looking to make sure they canít land on a large area. In truth the two best methods are both the netting and needle strips.
